The VZ Scorpion 61 (Škorpion vz. 61) is a compact Czechoslovak 7.65mm machine pistol created in the early 1960s for security forces, armoured-vehicle crews and special units needing maximum firepower in the smallest package possible. Lightweight, easily concealable and fast-firing, it became famous for its distinctive folding wire stock and tiny size — small enough to holster like a large pistol. Despite its miniature frame, it featured clever engineering like a rate reducer to keep the high rate of fire controllable. The Scorpion 61 saw wide use across Warsaw Pact countries and later became a favourite in films and games thanks to its unique silhouette. Shooting the VZ Scorpion 61 at Churchill Shooting Budapest is a fun, retro Cold War experience — one of the most unusual daytime activities in Budapest and a great pick for visitors looking for quirky, cinematic things to do. If you want something small, fast and full of character, the Scorpion 61 is a blast. Seen in movies: – Red Dawn (1984) – Ronin – The Bourne Identity – Numerous Cold War–themed thrillers and Eastern European crime films Featured in games: – Call of Duty: Black Ops – Grand Theft Auto series – Hitman – Payday 2 – Classic tactical shooters and Cold War mods Used by militaries & forces: – Czechoslovak military and police (original users) – Warsaw Pact internal-security units – Special police and protection teams in Europe and the Middle East – Various militias and security groups due to widespread surplus availability Fun Fact: The Scorpion 61 is so small that intelligence agents reportedly hid them in briefcases and large coat pockets — making it one of the few machine pistols that could genuinely pass for a “spy gun.” Non-shooters often find it adorable because it looks like a shrunken SMG… until they pull the trigger and feel how fast it really runs.
